How beneficial is Physio-led Pilates?
Pilates is beneficial for everyone, whether you suffer from endometriosis or POP, or if you’re going through the menopause. We aim to improve your mobility, strength, balance and coordination with added benefits as explained:
- If you suffer with incontinence or bladder issues, Pilates is a great way of building your core and pelvic floor: it helps to strengthen the pelvic floor, but also the core (transverse abdominal muscles) which help to support the pelvic floor muscles. Pilates encourages proper breathing patterns which help the pelvic floor contract and relax properly.
- If you have pelvic organ prolapse (POP) physio-led Pilates is the perfect way to exercise as Physiotherapists can help you learn to use your pelvic floor and core properly without excessive abdominal pressure. Improving your pelvic floor strength can lift the bladder, uterus and rectum, which helps reduce symptoms such as heaviness or pressure in the vaginal area. Learning to breathe and use your core properly through your exercises also helps to prevent unnecessary downward pressure.
- For those suffering from endometriosis, Pilates is a controlled way of exercising to help prevent muscle cramps in the pelvis, lower back and abdomen. Improving muscle strength can help relieve tight muscles, which reduces pain. It can also support hormonal imbalances and reduce stress, which can help with your symptoms.
- If you’re going through the menopause or are post menopausal, Pilates is a beneficial way to exercise, helping to support hormonal balance and mood by reducing stress and cortisol levels. We know from experience it helps to promote relaxation, reduce brain fog and can help reduce menopausal sleep disturbances. It helps to strengthen bones and prevent osteoporosis that can be caused by a reduction in oestrogen levels with menopause.
